From Daughter to Dad

image

This letter’s from Kristy, who’s 16 year old daughter, Madyson, wrote it to her stepdad when she was 10 years old as an assignment for school. She had to write an essay about someone she knew, admired and respected, and she chose her stepdad.

David Wall came into my life when I was four or five years old. My mother married to him when I was eight. My Mom and my biological father split up when I was a small toddler. He never calls and he still doesn’t. He expects me to call. When David married my Mom, I started calling him “Dad” because he played the roll as my dad. The longer I knew him the closer I felt to him. He was there for me during the hard and sad times, he helps me when I need help, and he teachers me a lot. He also made my Mom and I want a ranch and horses. He’s kind of a country boy. We love each other a lot. He treats me as a daughter and I treat him like a father. I’m sure I’ve said some things that have hurt his feelings, but I just wanted to let him know that I love him and my Mom and my brother and sister more than anything in the world. Words can’t explain the love I have for all of them. This is to you dad, and all the love you give to me.

Madyson, age 10
